In Italy when you want the truth you ask for it ‘without hair on the tongue’. I love this. Great songs don’t have hairy tongues. They use what they need to get to truth: violence, love, sorrow, whatever it takes. They grab you by the throat and the soul at the same time. They kiss you with the upper lip and bite you with the other. When you hear a good song you see the world through someone else’s eyes. When you hear a great song you feel the world through someone else’s heart. I’ve been attempting to write a great song for ten years now. Two albums, countless shows, more than a few roadside pies and deep, deep friendship is all I’ve got to show so far. But I’m going to keep trying.
